Oh my. How do I go about explaining how infinitely marvelous this fanfiction is? I guess I should start with the basics. “Favor Me With Silence” by Madea is a Draco/Hermione pairing from the Harry Potter fanfiction universe. Her summary states it as:
Silence is an easy text to misread. A.A Attanasio . Hermione strikes a bargain with Draco, and then things get interesting…CP!
If you’ve already read my Wash Away review you’ll know I am not a Harry Potter fan. I haven’t read the books, watched the movies, nor do I intend to. Why if I’m so rabid for certain fanfiction? Well, Ms. Rowling didn’t write the books with Draco and Hermione as a romantic pairing that’s why! Thank goodness for writers like Madea who can show the other side by writing an outstanding piece of fiction which can make a non-HP fan like myself obsessed!
I love, love, love this story!
Through the course of 34+ chapters, Madea takes two polar characters who have absolute loathing for one another and successfully details the unconventional journey they take to fall in love. Her methods are deft with subtlety. On the physical surface, we have a tale of dominance and submission through the use of hand, hairbrush, switch, and slipper. However, Favor Me With Silence is so much more.
Draco dominates Hermione with physical force and psychological insinuation. He invades her mind and will, eventually controlling her with guile and adoration. Yet, as many an uninitiated Dom will attest, he who ensnares often finds himself sharing the same cage as his victim. Draco increasingly becomes fixated on Hermione until he cannot help but find his every action is influenced by how it affects Hermione.
And that is what takes this fic to the stratosphere. The themes in this story are not easy to write. In the wrong hands, it becomes a caricature of D/S relationships. However, Madea knows how much to give and how to give it.
The CP (corporal punishment, i.e., spankings) scenes are explicit. Madea pulls no punches when she describes how it feels when over Draco’s lap. Her descriptive prose give no room for a scene cut. We see it, feel it, and sympathize. (Or not depending on how you roll.) The eventual love scenes are tasteful yet draw the readers into their physical intimacy.
The beauty of this fiction is the character growth. Through the numerous spankings Draco administers, he grows to think of someone outside of himself. Hermione learns the freedom that can come from submission. She learns to let go.
Honestly, I can probably write about this story for hours. However, you need to go read it so let me let you go with a final word. Those who have been following me for years will undoubtedly find appreciation for the psychological aspects of this fiction. If you are offended by D/S themes you will not like it, but if you are so offended, what are you doing here?

I recently finished reading “Silence”… Very impressive!!! I love it when you include links to other stories. The way the author showed the relationship progressing gradually, over the course of the whole story, was so skillful. Sometimes it was confusing who was talking, and referring to boys as “children” in one paragraph and “men” in another was disconcerting. My favorite part, though, has got to be in chapter 21 when she asks for a specific treatment… very enjoyable story!
I’m so glad my recommendation was an enjoyable one! Madea is a very talented writer and her take on a D/S relationship between Hermione and Draco is very unique indeed.
I’m not sure if you followed her profile link but she has started the sequel “A Time To Speak.” You can find it at: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5754155/1/A_Time_to_Speak
So far, so good. It’s a little odd to get used to the interaction with the elder Malfoys but I am quite interested in seeing where Madea will take us.
